Learn more English!

In the high school I learned English but my teacher always was sick and for that I never learned to much. That I know of this language is because I have seen many movies and serials in English and this helps me a lot. In the university I did a test in the first year about English and the headphones were bad and I don’t listening anything. Finally I stay in the second level of English and I had to do all the courses in the ICEI.

In the first course I don’t learn anything because the teacher was really bad. She never knew the words that we asked and always looked on internet the meaning. In the second course I have a teacher really good and his classes were very entertaining and I learned a lot. In the last course I learned a lot too because the teacher is very dedicated and she motivates us to learn and practice the language.

I think we should have more classes of English and at a more convenient time because now is very difficult to me to assist at this course. I hope in the future take a course of English and can travel around the world without inconvenient with the language.

Christmas, a very special day

I’m going to write about the Christmas with my family. Every year I travel to Osorno to spend the Christmas with family. This is a really special occasion because all the family comes together to celebrate this day. Usually my family is very close but in this opportunity all of us go to the house of my grandparents and eat a lot.

My family loves barbecues and for Christmas makes that and a lot of salads. Also they make cakes and cookies glazed. For that, the Christmas dinner is so cool and very delicious. After dinner we relaxed and chatted, and when it is almost Christmas we make speeches about the family, life and give thanks for all.

And when they are just 12 am my cousin starts to deliver Christmas presents. My cousin always delivering the presents, it’s like a tradition in my family. We are a lot of people and this takes a while. It is very funny and cute, and I can not imagine a Christmas without all of this. I hope that this 24 of December can be special like every year.

My close and supportive family

In this opportunity I’m going to talk about my family. I from Osorno, a little city in the south of Chile, and all my family live here. Well, not all but the most because I have family in La Unión and since April in Arica. My family of Osorno is very big, there are a lot of people and they are very close. My grandfather’s name is Maximiliano and my grandmother’s name is Leontina, but we called them “papi maqui” and “mami leo”. My uncles are Iván and José, and my aunts are Sonia and Oriana. My mom is the last one and her name is Sandra. And we are eleven cousins, most of us are twenty or thirty. I also have three nephews; all of them are three or four and are boys. It’s very funny and cool to have a very big family, because in the holidays, like birthdays, Christmas or New Year we come together to the grandparent’s house and celebrate.

We always make a barbecue, even in New Year we make one at night and another one at lunch of the first of January. this place is so quiet because it is in the field and it’s next to a river. In the summer all of us go swimming, rest and eat all the fruits of the trees like apples, cherries and peaches.

And all are so close and supportive. For example, in April my cousin Andrea and her family went to Arica for the job of her husband and they missed so much the city, the field, the friends and the family. In the holidays of summer they wanted to travel, but they don’t have money. And my family decided to help them and raise money with events to benefit. They sell “empanadas”, barbecues, cakes, even clothes. Now they are about to collect the money and I’m sure they will succeed. I’m very proud of having this family.

2013, a busy year.

I think that the best success in the last years is the coming of my nephew, called Martín. Now, he is 3 and is a very curious and happy child. When I knew the news of his date of born, because it was a little unexpected, I traveled to Osorno for waiting his coming. That day was very exciting and is one of the most important days of my life.

This year has been weird because a lot of things have happened. This 2013 is my fourth year of journalism and the penultimate in my career, and for that is a little complicate with all the obligations and classes that I have. Also I have two jobs, I packing in a supermarket and I’m a tutor of the Universidad de Chile. I think that the second job is more like help to my partners. This consists of teaching some specific area; explaining the functioning of the university and the university life. This is a comprehensive support and these tutorials are for students of first year of the ICEI.

In the university I have other activities, like I am delegate of my course and I participate in the Formación Básica commission. When all of things come together I end the days very exhaust and a little stressful. But all of these activities make my life nice and complete. And my family specially this year has been a very important support in my life.

In the two months remaining I have a lot of responsibilities and classes. I think that I’m a little backward with some courses, but I’m sure that I make it. Also in the vacations I will have the “práctica” in an important newspaper called La Tercera. In the last days that was a news really important in my life, because it is a little difficult to have this work. I hope that all comes up very well and I hope to have the energy for ending this year excellently.

I love food

I’m going to talk about one thing that I love: food. When I arrived in Santiago I didn’t know how to cook and life here was very difficult for me. The first year in the university I ate all the time fast food and it was really bad. My body suffered the consequences and I was sick all the year. I had two pneumonias and every month I had stomachache. It was really bad and for that the nutritionist recommended me to eat more healthily.

Since that moment I started to learn to cook with recipes that I took from internet and every time that I cooked I called my mom to help me. I learned in a short time and now I cook everything. I can prepare lasagna, different soups, vegetable omelet, baked fish and all that I can see in a recipe.

Also I love making cookies and muffins, and things with a lot of sugar. It is not healthy but I cook that only once a month. Sometimes I’m bored to cook every day for bring food to the university and for that I cook like three times a week and keep it in pots for keep it in good condition. Other times I make salads of different varieties and I love this because it is light and very tasty.

Summary

According to the latest news published by Martin Pengelly, The Guardians won two online journalism awards for The National Security Agency’s Files reporting. One of this awards is the Gannett Foundation award for investigative journalism and the other the Gannett Foundation watchdog journalism award. The Online News Association awarded The Guardian for its work on the issue of NSA dragnet surveillance.

This association is a nonprofit membership organization for digital journalists, connecting journalism, technology and innovation, and awarded the Guardian at a ceremony in Atlanta on Saturday night.

In June of this year the history began when some documents leaked by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The big revelation of this document was that the NSA had been collecting the telephone metadata of millions of Americans. Since that moment The Guardian has reported extensively on the scale and scope of the NSA's activities, leading to legislative moves in the US Congress to rein in the agency.

Janine Gibson, who is the editor in chief of Guardian US, said: "These awards are significant, not just to our team who have worked relentlessly for months on this story, but because they recognize the importance of difficult watchdog journalism in the public interest."

Other winners on Saturday night included the Boston Globe, which was honoured for its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing and other stories, the Texas Tribune and the New York Times.
