Learn more English!

In the high school I learned English but my teacher always was sick and for that I never learned to much. That I know of this language is because I have seen many movies and serials in English and this helps me a lot. In the university I did a test in the first year about English and the headphones were bad and I don’t listening anything. Finally I stay in the second level of English and I had to do all the courses in the ICEI.

In the first course I don’t learn anything because the teacher was really bad. She never knew the words that we asked and always looked on internet the meaning. In the second course I have a teacher really good and his classes were very entertaining and I learned a lot. In the last course I learned a lot too because the teacher is very dedicated and she motivates us to learn and practice the language.

I think we should have more classes of English and at a more convenient time because now is very difficult to me to assist at this course. I hope in the future take a course of English and can travel around the world without inconvenient with the language.

Christmas, a very special day

I’m going to write about the Christmas with my family. Every year I travel to Osorno to spend the Christmas with family. This is a really special occasion because all the family comes together to celebrate this day. Usually my family is very close but in this opportunity all of us go to the house of my grandparents and eat a lot.

My family loves barbecues and for Christmas makes that and a lot of salads. Also they make cakes and cookies glazed. For that, the Christmas dinner is so cool and very delicious. After dinner we relaxed and chatted, and when it is almost Christmas we make speeches about the family, life and give thanks for all.

And when they are just 12 am my cousin starts to deliver Christmas presents. My cousin always delivering the presents, it’s like a tradition in my family. We are a lot of people and this takes a while. It is very funny and cute, and I can not imagine a Christmas without all of this. I hope that this 24 of December can be special like every year.

My close and supportive family

In this opportunity I’m going to talk about my family. I from Osorno, a little city in the south of Chile, and all my family live here. Well, not all but the most because I have family in La Unión and since April in Arica. My family of Osorno is very big, there are a lot of people and they are very close. My grandfather’s name is Maximiliano and my grandmother’s name is Leontina, but we called them “papi maqui” and “mami leo”. My uncles are Iván and José, and my aunts are Sonia and Oriana. My mom is the last one and her name is Sandra. And we are eleven cousins, most of us are twenty or thirty. I also have three nephews; all of them are three or four and are boys. It’s very funny and cool to have a very big family, because in the holidays, like birthdays, Christmas or New Year we come together to the grandparent’s house and celebrate.

We always make a barbecue, even in New Year we make one at night and another one at lunch of the first of January. this place is so quiet because it is in the field and it’s next to a river. In the summer all of us go swimming, rest and eat all the fruits of the trees like apples, cherries and peaches.

And all are so close and supportive. For example, in April my cousin Andrea and her family went to Arica for the job of her husband and they missed so much the city, the field, the friends and the family. In the holidays of summer they wanted to travel, but they don’t have money. And my family decided to help them and raise money with events to benefit. They sell “empanadas”, barbecues, cakes, even clothes. Now they are about to collect the money and I’m sure they will succeed. I’m very proud of having this family.

2013, a busy year.

I think that the best success in the last years is the coming of my nephew, called Martín. Now, he is 3 and is a very curious and happy child. When I knew the news of his date of born, because it was a little unexpected, I traveled to Osorno for waiting his coming. That day was very exciting and is one of the most important days of my life.

This year has been weird because a lot of things have happened. This 2013 is my fourth year of journalism and the penultimate in my career, and for that is a little complicate with all the obligations and classes that I have. Also I have two jobs, I packing in a supermarket and I’m a tutor of the Universidad de Chile. I think that the second job is more like help to my partners. This consists of teaching some specific area; explaining the functioning of the university and the university life. This is a comprehensive support and these tutorials are for students of first year of the ICEI.

In the university I have other activities, like I am delegate of my course and I participate in the Formación Básica commission. When all of things come together I end the days very exhaust and a little stressful. But all of these activities make my life nice and complete. And my family specially this year has been a very important support in my life.

In the two months remaining I have a lot of responsibilities and classes. I think that I’m a little backward with some courses, but I’m sure that I make it. Also in the vacations I will have the “práctica” in an important newspaper called La Tercera. In the last days that was a news really important in my life, because it is a little difficult to have this work. I hope that all comes up very well and I hope to have the energy for ending this year excellently.

I love food

I’m going to talk about one thing that I love: food. When I arrived in Santiago I didn’t know how to cook and life here was very difficult for me. The first year in the university I ate all the time fast food and it was really bad. My body suffered the consequences and I was sick all the year. I had two pneumonias and every month I had stomachache. It was really bad and for that the nutritionist recommended me to eat more healthily.

Since that moment I started to learn to cook with recipes that I took from internet and every time that I cooked I called my mom to help me. I learned in a short time and now I cook everything. I can prepare lasagna, different soups, vegetable omelet, baked fish and all that I can see in a recipe.

Also I love making cookies and muffins, and things with a lot of sugar. It is not healthy but I cook that only once a month. Sometimes I’m bored to cook every day for bring food to the university and for that I cook like three times a week and keep it in pots for keep it in good condition. Other times I make salads of different varieties and I love this because it is light and very tasty.

Summary

According to the latest news published by Martin Pengelly, The Guardians won two online journalism awards for The National Security Agency’s Files reporting. One of this awards is the Gannett Foundation award for investigative journalism and the other the Gannett Foundation watchdog journalism award. The Online News Association awarded The Guardian for its work on the issue of NSA dragnet surveillance.

This association is a nonprofit membership organization for digital journalists, connecting journalism, technology and innovation, and awarded the Guardian at a ceremony in Atlanta on Saturday night.

In June of this year the history began when some documents leaked by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The big revelation of this document was that the NSA had been collecting the telephone metadata of millions of Americans. Since that moment The Guardian has reported extensively on the scale and scope of the NSA's activities, leading to legislative moves in the US Congress to rein in the agency.

Janine Gibson, who is the editor in chief of Guardian US, said: "These awards are significant, not just to our team who have worked relentlessly for months on this story, but because they recognize the importance of difficult watchdog journalism in the public interest."

Other winners on Saturday night included the Boston Globe, which was honoured for its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing and other stories, the Texas Tribune and the New York Times.

How green are you?

I think that in Chile the people don’t care about the environment, but there are organizations that help to reduce the contamination or even some people help on his own recycling and doing others activities. But, how the people learn about environmentally friendly practices? I think that in internet is where we find the most quantity information, at least in Chile. There’s a web page called “YoReciclo.com” and in this page we can know about the places for recycling through the type of garbage or different campaigns to recycle.

Also, the other day I saw a tv program in Canal 13 C about different initiatives like make bricks with plastic bottles and waste, or make crafts with glass. So, I think that are many types of alternatives for recycling and someone easier that we can incorporate into our habits. Like use bike or walk instead of a car, or turn off lights when we don’t use it. Also we can use the shower for less time and try to disconnect all the plugs that we not used.

The distance between my home and the university is long, and for that I used the public transporting, but I would like to use a bike like a transport. I’m not in any eco organization because I don´t have time to dedicate to these. But I would like to join in an eco-organization because there contribute to take care the environment and this is very important in these days.

For reduce my carbon footprint I recycle my water bottle and I used for a few days, for not buy every day a new water bottle. I turn on just one lights in the night in my house, for not spend too much electricity. I think in Santiago all the people use a car and they don´t worry about the contamination that a car produces. And many times I saw people litter in the street and don´t worry about that. They would have more conscience at the moment to think in the environment.

My ideal job

I’m studying journalism and I’m in fourth year of my career, so I think that my ideal job in this area would be journalist of international news. With this job I will be able travel around the world and visit all the countries that  I like, as France, Italy, Mexico or Unites States. That would be really cool because I love to travel.

The principal qualities and skills that I need to do this job would be study and finish journalism. And obviously learn a lot of languages, for example if I‘m  going to France I need to learn the languages very well  and this is not an easy job. For that I think that I would be good in this job, because I love to learn the languages and I study English and French in the university. I think this a little difficult, but I loved these languages and when you like things, it’s easier.

The principal difficulty of having a job like that would be don’t see my family and this would be bad sometimes. And this job demands a lot of time for the preparation and all the trip, and I wouldn’t have time to see my friends neither. And these types of jobs are not easy to find because require a lot of years of preparation and of experience.

Places would like to visit

I really would like to visit in my next holidays is Machu Pichu. All my friends will go and they say this is a mystic place and is so nice. And also I would like to visit a lot of places of Latin America, like Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay.

In Chile I’d like visit places like in the north Iquique or in the south Torres del Paine. And I’d like to make a tour in the Austral road and I will know all this beautiful places like native forest, mountains and lakes. I’d also like to know Europe, specifically France. I like his culture, places and his language.

I study French too and I really like it. I think this is my big dream, because I always think in how will be living in this country. In my next holydays I think I will not have so much time because I have to work and make my journalistic practice.

The best concert! (post 2)

The April 2 I was a concert of The Killers. This band came to Chile this year and made a concert in the Movistar Arena. The Killers presented his new album “Battle Born” in this concert and also they played the classics songs like "Mr. Brightside", “Read My Mind” or “When you were young”. It was really cool. The show was amazing with all the fireworks, special lights from the stage and the confetti with the symbols of the band. The Killers is one of my favorites bands and this concert it was so special. They played twenty songs, even more than in other countries where The Killers presented this show. In the end of the concert the vocalist called Brandon Flowers down from the stage and greeted to the public. It was a really great concert.

Here’s one of my favorites songs of them playing in the Movistar Arena.

Ruby Sparks

The last movie that I saw was “Ruby Sparks”. I loved see movies all the time, in the cinema, in my house or with my friends. This time I saw “Ruby Sparks” in my home. I was very bored and decided to watch a movie on line, by the website Cuevana. It was the last Saturday. The plot of the movie is about a writer very famous and young, called Calvin, who wrote a book when he has only a child and now he grow up but he can´t write anything because he don´t have the inspiration necessary. One day his therapist, the Dr. Rosenthal, recommends write about someone who likes of his dog. Then one night he dreams with a very nice girl who likes his dog and when he wake up starting to write about this girl called Ruby. He writes a lot of pages about her and he started to fall in love of Ruby. One day she appear in the real world and starting to living with Calvin, but he knows that he can change the personality, feelings and everything of Ruby written in his machine. Then here is where starting the problems between make the relationship work in his mind and in the real world. Calvin is interpreted by Paul Dano, Ruby by Zoe Kazan and the doctor by Elliott Gould. I think this movie is relatively good, but I don´t like that have so much romance. The final is really good and then I know that the things are not like they seem.

Post 3

I´m not really big fan of the technology. I prefer have just the necessary such as a old Tv and telephone. But, my favourite piece of technology is my laptop. Its was a present from my mother when I started the university in 2009.
Then I got it four years ago. It is a little old, but still it is very useful. Especially when I have to do my homework, like write notes and other stuff for the university.
I like my laptop because it is really useful and is the piece of technology that I had for more time. Its always down on the floor and dosn´t break, its really cool.
One times the charger broke and I been without my laptop for one week. It was really bad, because I can´t do my homework, study or comunicate with my family.
